Associate Vice President, External Relations

Job Description:

    The Position:
    Reporting directly to the President and serving as a part of Redeemer's Leadership Team, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for External Relations plays a key role in advancing the mission of Redeemer University. The AVP, External Relations will oversee a division that includes Donor Relations, and Strategic Relations. These departments are responsible for fundraising, donor relations and stewardship, as well as government, community, alumni, parent, and church relations. Additionally, the AVP, External Relations holds a portfolio caseload of major donors, and also serves as an external ambassador for the University, building strong and sustainable relationships and networks that benefit all areas of the university, including campus and academic development, and partnership opportunities.

    Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic direction to all external relations efforts
  • Share and advance the mission of Redeemer University, and liaise regularly with supporters and external audiences
  • Interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, to advance Redeemer's mission
  • Empower, equip, guide, and lead engaged professionals in their work supporting Redeemer
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other departments, such as Marketing and Communications, Admissions, and academic departments to represent Redeemer to external audiences
  • Leadership of all fundraising operations, policies, and strategy, including working closely with the President in support of the President's fundraising responsibilities and donor portfolio
  • Deepen the ties with alumni, strengthening the relationship and demonstrating the ongoing value of their connection to Redeemer
  • Oversee the development and operation of external relations events
  • Provide strategic and expert advice to the President, Leadership Team, and Board of Governors, on external relations matters
  • Provide and prepare input on planning, budgeting, reporting and evaluation to ensure that external relations activities are fully integrated in Redeemer's outreach strategy



  • Preferred Skills and Attributes:
  • Solid experience and understanding of fundraising in a charitable, not-for-profit setting with a donor-centred approach to achieving fundraising goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leader and developer of people
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and foster strong, strategic professional relationships
  • Consensus builder, able to work within a collegial and dynamic team environment
  • Diplomacy and tact



  • Other Requirements:
  • Familiarity with, and commitment to, a reformed Christian worldview, with a strong Christian faith and an ability to articulate Redeemer's mission effectively and persuasively



  • Education/Training:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience developing relationships with donors and supporters in a Christian not-for-profit organization, with a minimum of 2 years in a senior fundraising management role
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • CFRE designation an asset; however relevant experience and demonstrated track record in fundraising and donor stewardship will be equally considered
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge fundraising software or other CRM, and Google suite
