Collect & transport samples of potential contaminants as they pertain to occupational health & safety and present reports to clients based on findings.
Job Duties:
Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering the technical components of environmental health and safety projects and provide support to Project Managers. The successful candidate must be a detail-oriented, critical thinker with strong writing skills. The successful candidate must be capable of collecting accurate field information and compiling the data into well-structured reports.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide abatement contractors air monitoring for workplace hazards; including, but not limited to lead, asbestos, silica, and other workplace contaminants
- Environmental monitoring of construction/demolition related work activities
- Recording data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner
- Preparing technical reports detailing environmental assessments and monitoring activities
- Communicate results with clients, contractors, and project managers
- Writing technical reports and correspondence
- Collect samples of dust, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxic materials for analysis
- Collect samples of hazardous materials, or arrange for sample collection
- Maintain all industrial hygiene equipment and ensure all is calibrated, ready for use and in good condition
- Conduct air quality monitoring
- Carry out surveys for Designated Substances and other Hazardous
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Physically fit and able to conduct field work in all weather conditions
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong people skills and a desire and ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus
- Be available for local travel and extended working hours when required
- Availability to work on occasional nights and weekends
Assets:
- Accreditation or eligibility for accreditation with a professional association
- Experience in environmental monitoring for construction/demolition related projects
- Familiarity with Federal and Nova Scotia environmental regulations and legislation.
- Valid health and safety training certificates: Standard First Aid, WHIMIS, Fall-arrest, Confined space entry, etc.
