This Job Opening is limited to Aboriginal Persons indigenous to the present boundaries of the Northwest Territories and includes any Aboriginal person resident at birth and any Canadian Aboriginal persons who have lived more than half of their life in the Northwest Territories.

Department Information

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Job Information

Reporting to the Manager of Diversity and Inclusion, the Indigenous Human Resources Specialist works with management and stakeholders by developing, directing, implementing and coordinating programs and initiatives aimed at the recruitment and retention of Indigenous Aboriginal people.

As the successful applicant, you will play a key role in identifying and making recommendations with respect to emerging issues relating to recruiting Indigenous Aboriginal people into positions

at all levels of the public service. A challenge you may face in this position is to identify the available Indigenous Aboriginal labour pools for the large number of occupations within the public service, to assist in the development of territorial and national recruitment strategies, and to attract potential Indigenous Aboriginal applicants in the Government of the Northwest Territories. The recruitment and retention of a qualified and capable public service that is representative of the people it serves is a priority for the GNWT.

In order to facilitate the required in-depth planning and analysis required to develop indigenous Aboriginal recruitment and retention strategies, the incumbent must have the knowledge, skills and abilities that are typically attained through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Aboriginal Studies, Human Resources, Business Administration or a related discipline with four years of experience delivering programs in a career development or Human Resource environment or. a related university degree and extensive related experience including working with, or in, aboriginal communities. Extensive knowledge of NWT Aboriginal culture, history and protocols is required.
