Job description

OceansAdvance is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and responsible individual to join our team and help us meet the goal of engaging students and teachers in ocean careers through online connections with real world projects and mentors. Your main role will be to aid in the detailed coordination of OceansAdvance youth outreach events, including our online mentoring program, teacher education sessions, and associated promotional activities. This will include outreach to schools and teachers, set-up and supervision of online mentoring sessions, promotion of youth programming through social media, and content development for virtual worksite visits.

Position: Program Logistics Coordinator – Youth Outreach and Mentoring

Location: St. John’s, NL

Employment Status: Part-time contract position

Anticipated Term of Employment: 34-weeks; Starting May 3, 2021 and ending December 23, 2021

Hours of Work: 28 hours per week (4 days/week, 7 hrs/day)

Compensation: $22.30/hr payable bi-weekly and less all applicable statutory deductions

Reports to: OceansAdvance Program Manager – Youth Outreach and Mentoring

Who Can Apply: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with provincial legislation and regulations. Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain a certificate of conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities

Youth & Industry Outreach

o Communicate with teachers and school administrators to promote youth career programs and answer queries

o Coordinate and assist with delivery of outreach activities with industry and education partners, including teacher professional learning sessions

o Maintain ongoing documentation, including photographs, forms feedback, levels of participation and other tracking of youth career programs

Online Mentoring Session Coordination

o Ensure mentors, students, and teachers have access to all necessary resources and digital platforms required for participation

o Aid in the development of digital program resources

o Collect and organize participant information and feedback

o Collect photographs to include in social media channels

o Aid in the facilitation of online mentoring sessions

o Help students and mentors

complete their profiles on our online mentoring platform

o Aid student teams in scheduling of follow-up sessions with their mentors

Teacher Professional Learning Session Coordination

o Liaise with Program Manager Youth Outreach and Mentoring and education program partners to help coordinate in-service teachers and logistics for program delivery

o Help coordinate on-site logistics for program delivery and special sessions

o Collect photographs and videos from special sessions and update social media and other communication outlets

Required Skills and Qualifications

Education and Experience

o Some post-secondary education in Education, Ocean Science, Technology or relevant field

o Knowledge of NL marine industries, issues, and research is considered an asset

o Previous teaching/interpretation experience and/or experience with youth engagement is considered an asset

o Experience with online webinars, video conferencing platforms, google suite, and/or social media campaigns

o Public speaking skills and experience working with groups of all sizes

o Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated

o Strong commitment to the environment and education

o Able to communicate effectively with audiences of all ages and learning abilities both in person and online

o Ability to work in collaboration with both industry professional, educators, and students with a wide variety of ages and personalities

o Ability to track detailed progress and meet deadlines

o Report writing capability
