Choices for Youth is currently seeking a career services professional to join our Employment Support team. The individual will work to support a pilot program in Corner Brook in partnership with Food First NL providing services to support employment success for job seekers experiencing barriers.
Under the direction of the Employment Support Coordinator, you will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders. The initial position is a 6-month contract for 20 hours per week from June – November 2021.
Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver soft-skills, career development, and essential skills to all youth prior to employment placement;
Liaise with Food First NL and Choices for Youth staff to foster a fulfilling opportunity for youth;
Engage in crisis intervention using strength-based, trauma informed practice;
Deliver a pre-employment learning plan for pilot participants;
Provide adequate observation, supervision, and support to individual youth engaged in the pilot.
Work with existing Employment Support team and other stakeholders to provide wrap around supports and system navigation for participants;
Responsible for collating impact data and evaluation for the pilot;
Assist in labour marketing attachment and maintaining employment.
Qualifications & Experience
Have a post-secondary degree/diploma in human services (such as a social work, psychology, education, social sciences) or business
Have a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ of related work experience;
Knowledge of non-profit sector and community resources in the Corner Brook area
Have knowledge and experience in the areas of career development, supported employment, mental health and evaluation;
Have knowledge of and experience navigating provincial and federal income benefit systems;
Have knowledge and experience with data management systems such as ARMS and PRIME;
Have strong interpersonal as well as written communication skills;
Have strong facilitation skills;
Have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
Have a valid First Aid certificate;
A Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Enhanced Reliability Status Clearance are required for this position.
