Job Description:

Position Summary:

IRBC is seeking an experienced, motivated individual to fill a temporary, rotational role as a Brewer. In collaboration with the Head Brewer, the successful candidate will oversee and coordinate brewery production, sanitation, cellar work, inventory management, and packaging of products. This is a short term, hourly position that reports directly to the head brewer. The Brewer will also be responsible for mentoring and training members of the existing production team at IRBC.

This is a negotiable work arrangement. Accommodations and travel to be provided by the company. A minimum commitment would be 2 x 3-week work periods in Labrador City.

IRBC Currently operates with the following equipment:

  • A 7 bbl Stout Tanks electric brewhouse with Brewmation controls
  • 2 x 15 bbl and 2 x 7 bbl fermenters
  • 4 x 7 bbl serving tanks

Additional brite tanks and a 1 bbl pilot system are currently en route, to be installed in September 2020:

  • 1 x 15 bbl Brite tank
  • 2 x 7 bbl serving tanks
  • 2 x 3.5 bbl serving tanks
  • Complete 1 bbl pilot brew system with 3 x 1 bbl fermenters

Essential Job Duties:

  • Hold cleanliness and safety above all other priorities;
  • Assist and lead brewery production, planning and maintenance;
  • CIP of production vessels and associated equipment using on-site cleaning and sanitizing products;
  • Transferring of product from fermentation vessels to brite tanks;
  • Carbonation management;
  • Oversee packaging operations, including the set-up, operation, cleaning and troubleshooting of a CASK Manual Canning System (MCS) as well as any future equipment;
  • Contribute to the organizational development by identifying and bringing forth issues of concern and/or opportunities for improvement;
  • Assistance with the establishment and improvement of standard operating procedures.
  • Training and mentoring of other IRBC team members in the above duties

The Qualified Individual:

  • Experience: Related brewery experience is a requirement
  • Education: Related post-secondary educational programs would be considered an asset, but not required
  • Valid Class 5 NL Driver’s License required.
  • Able to work well within a small team and individually
  • Able to work with a flexible schedule, depending on required duties. This could include some evenings and weekend duties;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

  • Strong ability to multi-task while ensuring attention to detail and cleanliness is maintained;
  • Ability to safely move a 50L kegs using proper lifting technique and equipment (~140lb);
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational issues and identify process improvements;
  • A positive and professional demeanor.
