The YMCA of Fredericton has been serving the Greater Fredericton
community for 158 years and has recently formalized its 2014-2019
strategic plan that sets out a path to achieve its ‘healthy people for healthy
communities’ vision. With approximately 250 full and part-time staff, over
400 volunteers and a reputation in the region as a trusted and relevant

partnerships. The YMCA of Fredericton is a 60,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art
building located in the heart of Fredericton and requires self-starting
individuals who want to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to building
healthy children, families and communities.
Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, lifeguards are responsible for ensuring a safe
aquatic environment and delivering quality, values based programming in the
Aquatic area. Instructors will be responsible for providing service excellence in all
Aquatic Programs and will ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants in
Ensure all safety and aquatic procedures are adhered to, and in the event of
an emergency respond as trained by the Association.
Ensure that staff, volunteers and members adhere to pool conduct guidelines
and maintain order in his/her designated area as a proactive approach to
ensuring safety and accident prevention.
Maintain accurate, up to date lesson worksheets and attendance records for
Set up and take down program and other equipment as required; checking
that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting any malfunctions and
removing damaged equipment from circulation).
Model appropriate behaviours to fellow staff, volunteers and members in line
with our Mission, Vision and Values and SAM 2.0 standards
Participate in all mandatory trainings and attends all staff meetings in
department and within the YMCA.
Other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications
14 years of age or older
Current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard Pool Option
Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C with AED
YMCA, Red Cross, or Lifesaving Swim Instructor certification is an asset
Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills
Proven communication skills both verbal and written
Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check
with Vulnerable Sector Search.
