Your Opportunity:

As the Addictions Counsellor, you will provide service delivery to the Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement which is located 80kms south of High Level. This opportunity is for one year with the possibility of an extension & involves providing supports to settlement members impacted by wildfires in 2019. They will work collaboratively within a team of AMH service providers based in High level & will be responsive to the needs of our community partners. If you love the outdoors, you will appreciate the Northern Lights shows of aurora borealis in this region which can number about 300 per year. Colors of red, blue, green, & yellow flow across these magical skies & are particularly prominent during the clear nights of winter. Just a short 30 minute drive takes you to the hamlet of La Crete which offers all the amenities of a modern town to its population of 3,500 residents with the surrounding area totaling approximately 8,000 people. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable & is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent & temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta & cannot be carried over.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You

will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions. Ability to travel in inclement weather.
